Rum & Black Tea Belong Together
Who says tea can’t be fun and a part of the party? There are many ways to serve up tea and one popular version adds copious amounts of dark rum and spices to the mix. Tastes great, warms you up, and gets you ready for the holiday party. Here’s our recipe:
Ingredients:
Dark Rum - our favorites are Haitian Barbancourt or Trinidad and Tobago Angostura
8 tablespoons of Amouré Chai
2 Cinnamon sticks
4 whole Star Anise
5 Cloves
6 tablespoons of Honey
1 Meyer Lemon (cut in wedges)
4 cups of cold filtered water
*The key here is creating a strong pot of black tea. Doubling what you would normally use for one cup.
Bring 4 cups of cold filtered water to boil. Once boiling, turn off the heat
Place the cinnamon sticks, cloves, and star anise loose in the hot water along with the Amouré Chai
Let it steep (covered) for approximately 10 minutes. Stirring once.
Strain into a pitcher - but save the cinnamon sticks and star anise
Add honey
Pour in as much dark rum as you can handle. (For this recipe we like use about 5 or 6 shots)
Stir well
Serve your cocktail in individual mugs and squeeze a meyer lemon wedge in each
Add the cinnamon sticks and star anise as a garnish (it will continue to add some flavor)
[Makes 4 cups]
Cheers!
